PLEASE JOIN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY LAW LIBRARY IN CONGRATULATING JUDGE GILL
S. FREEMAN ON RECEIVING THIS DISTINGUISHED AWARD.
When the Miami-Dade County Law Library (MDCLL) system was created under a
plan conceived and sponsored by the Dade County Bar Association in 1937 (Laws
of Florida, Chapter 17720), it was dedicated to the "perpetual use"
of the Bench and Bar of Dade County. Although the Library's collection has
grown from its original 4,000 volumes to almost 80,000 volumes today, and
its mandate has expanded to include service to all the citizens of Dade County,
the founding principle of providing "accessibility to the sources of
legal knowledge and experience" remains firmly in place.
The Library strives to meet the varied needs of its users, by balancing a
strong core collection with materials in new and changing practice areas.
This blend makes our collection one of the finest in South Florida.
Our combination of a friendly, service-oriented, professional staff, and a
focused collection makes the Miami-Dade County Law Library the right choice
for your library needs.
The MDCLL is located on the third floor of the Dade County Courthouse at 73 West Flagler Street in downtown Miami. We are reachable via major routes, I-95, and Biscayne Boulevard (US1).
The law library maintains a Florida archival collection which includes Florida
Statutes beginning in1892 and Florida Session Laws beginning in 1823 through
current date. This collection also includes Florida Rules of Court from 1979
and the Florida Bar Journal Directories from 1982.
The law library, located on the third floor of the Dade County Courthouse,
houses approximately 70,000 volumes, including statutes for all 50 states,
the National Reporter System, Practising Law Institute's Corporate and Commercial
course handbooks, and treatises covering subjects ranging from banking to
zoning. Special practice areas include aviation, automobiles, maritime/admiralty,
intellectual property, real estate tax, family law, immigration, municipal
government and international law. Materials are available in a wide range
of formats-print, online & web-based, CD-ROM, microfiche, and audio tape.
.
All materials can be located simply by consulting the online catalog, either remotely or from various terminals within the Library. The online catalog provides a displayable floor plan and shelving diagram to find the area in which that title is shelved. In addition, maps of the collection are posted in the reference area..
In the event that you can not find what you are looking for, do not hesitate to consult our front desk reference staff. They will be glad to assist you with all your library needs.
